Viewing tower
Description
A viewing tower. On the back (in ink): "Location of Tower Reservoir/Rd./Tower for guiding/the building of/Hoosac Tunnel."; (printed): "A.N. Terry/Photographer/68 E. Quincy St./North Adams, Mass." The handwritten information is incorrect. Plans for the towers used to align the Hoosac Tunnel can be seen online. Another view of the tower in this photograph can be seen on page 26 of North Adams and Vicinity (1898). It's described as an observatory and may be linked to the entry on Kemp Park on the same page. The blue color of this photograph indicates that it was created using the cyanotype process.
