Examples of the results of testing George Mowbray's blasting compound. On the back: "Geo. M. Mowbray's/1879/composition for blasting./Comparative trials in tough solid cast iron cylinders, measuring 6 inches diameter and 5 inches/deep, with hole drilled 11/32 (eleven thirty-seconds of an inch) four inches and three-quarters deep,/one charged with 164 grains of Mowbray's 1879 composition, the other with the same quantity of Alfred/Nobel's dynamite, containing 78 per cent. Nobel's Nitroglycerin, similar exploders, both blasted by/electricity, gave results as shown in photograph//Geo. M. Mowbray/North Adams, Mass., May 15, 1879"
